Tom, You are screwed up…

“You are screwed up!”…  Not the words you want to hear from your Doctor.  After not feeling well for a few months and avoiding my existing doctor for close to 8 years I decided it was time for fresh start.  I found a new doctor and scheduled a physical.

With colorful medical histories on both sides of my family the doc said he was giving me the works..  After an hour of tests he came back in sat down looked me dead in the eyes and said those words…  “Tom, you are screwed up”  the primarily results were clear, Type 2 Diabetes.  My vitals were bad, pulse rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, all high.  Not just high but dangerously high.  We could only assume that my cholesterol was the same.

It was not a shock.  I knew it based on how I was feeling.  I was just denying it.  My Dads genes and my poor lifestyle had caught up to me and in a big way.

Then my new doc said, “Don’t worry, we can fix it and you will be okay.  If you will do your part I will do mine and we can fix it.”

Four months later here I sit starting this blog to record my experience as a diabetic.  What I have discovered is there is a lot  of conflicting and confusing information out there about how to manage type 2 diabetes.  What is the right thing to do?  Who do I listen to?  To who and what do I tell?  I am educated professional in the heath care industry and I was having trouble finding clear answers.  So here I am blogging to share the answers I have found and my experience as a diabetic. I don’t even like to write all that much.

I don’t know if anyone will read this and I don’t really care.  This blog is just as much for me as anyone else it is way for me to cope.

So, here we go
